Brad Boyes

w smaller players can be victims of poor puck control against bigger defensemen.  Paul Kariya, Brad Boyes, David Perron and T.J. Oshie, all 6'0” or smaller, faced many problems last season keeping the puck in the offensive zone and on their stick in the corners.

ot.  Production from players have seemed to drop as well.  Reigning Blues' leading scorer Brad Boyes posted 33 goals last season; he has just nine at this moment.  Seven-time All-Star Paul Kariya was expected to put up big numbers after an injury-riddled 2008-09; he has just eight goals and 19 points.  Probably the biggest disappointment is 21-year old Patrik Berglund.  Expected to pick up from his 47-point rookie season, Berglund has just 12 points in 34 games played.  He has been a healthy scratch at times and has even seen games where he plays less than ten minutes a game on the fourth line.

er, the numbers can speak volumes for the lack of effort the team is seeing from Kariya.

Brad Boyes seemed to be a Godsend for the Blues after being acquired in 2007 for struggling Blues defenseman Dennis Wideman.  He scored 43 goals in his first full season as a Blue and 33 the next season.  The team relies on Boyes to take the big shots and pick the corners; pretty hard to do when you have just three shots on Sunday and one shot Tuesday night.  Boyes' scoring well seems to have dried up.  His nine goals this season is nothing to write home about.

t is hard to find which Blue may stand out from the rest, much like the start of last season.  Brad Boyes and David Backes took that spot over with relative ease during the Blues' amazing playoff run.

ities throughout the series and we didn't capitalize.”

The lone-goal was scored by Brad Boyes in the first game which cut the Vancouver lead to 2-1, when a rebound popped out to Boyes, who made no mistake and shot it into the gaping net.  This was possibly the only good power-play chance that Boyes looked strong on.

enomenal as well.  Ranking eighth in the NHL, many sharpshooters have arisen as of late.  Brad Boyes checks in tied for fifth in power-play goals in the league with 16 goals.  Boyes likes to setup on the top of the left face-off circle and one-time the puck from a sharp pass.  Look for the Blues’ power-play to be key in this series.

Oshie and Brad Boyes both scored in the shootout to seal the deal.  Kelly says the win sparked the club, and the team has only lost eight games in regulation since the big win.

Looking at the statistics though, something else rather unusual could be the spark that ignited the Blues that John Kelly speaks of.

The goal was assisted by both Paul Kariya and Brad Boyes, who tied for the team lead in points last season. Hopefully, this goal is a sign of things to come, as they need these three experienced scorers to help lead the way on such a young team.

ing 79 points in the 2007-08 NHL standings, the veterans are presumed to be more of a factor.  Brad Boyes notched 43 goals and 65 points last season due to hard work and knowledge of where to be on the rink.  Brad signed a four year, $16 million contract extension last season, and will most likely earn his paycheck yet again.

net, and to create multiple opportunities every game, but that simply did not happen last season.

Brad Boyes is coming off of a career-season, netting forty-three goals.  Brad played pretty well in his first full season as a Blue, and he needs to continue to be a force for the Blues offense.
